I personally know of several missionaries who are having a great deal of difficulty in staying on their respective mission fields. The problem is not support, persecution, indifference or culture shock. It is taxes! Missionaries in many countries are taxed at ridiculous rates, approaching 70% at times. I know of one missionary in Europe who had to leave his country (and very successful ministry) due to the fact that he simply couldn’t afford the taxes that the government was levying on him. I know of two others who are struggling with high assessments. One missionary was charged with a $40,000 tax bill for the last year! Then add American taxes on top of that. Is this a back-door way on the part of many countries to kick missionaries out without having to pass legislation against them? And what can be done? My European friend chose to leave his country on the principle that he didn’t want to contribute that kind of money to an atheistic government. He also didn’t want to cheat or “cut corners” on that tax bill, as that would have left a horrible testimony. This will be an increasing problem as we continue our headlong rush to One World Fascism and the advent of the Antichrist.
